Every Project has Inspiration Baked In

Being asked to help out with any project gives us an opportunity to learn and enhance that what we already know as well as help uncover a way for refinement in our approach and process. I personally think this is the way to move forward and avoid stagnation as a creative.

Here’s a real recent world example; Walker and I were asked to help edit a video for the daughter of Wiñay Taki’s founding member Rene Franco Salas. We happily jumped in and approached the project with the thought that we were going to be working through the day and trying to put a video together like we normally would. We were surprised to find out that his daughter (and her 2 classmates) had already shot all the footage and even had a rough shot list (with timecodes!) in place. Which left Walker and myself available to focus strictly on the timeline, titles, images and the lot.

Her and her group’s organization was a complete surprise (and a separate blog post) but also gave way for me to identify a need and refinement for us as a team. I spoke with Walker and discussed the option of being able to streamline the process for EVERY video project that we produce as we move ahead. That was synthesized into something like this:

Meeting with Non Bai’s President and Treasurer

Walker and myself were able to meet up and discuss multiple topics with Alberto Sinti Reategui and his wife Maria Quispe Diaz this week regarding their new web site as well as their projects. It was an encouraging meeting in the face of their most recent and important project to date; the need to restructure their water supply and facility in the center of their community.

The Healing Center for Non Bai provides medicinal plants and healing ceremonies for an international audience of travelers and visitors that have found their way to them in order to work on their personal healing. As of late, the water supply needs an upgrade from their well and utilities in order to continue supplying clean water not only to the visitors but to the community members themselves.

The meeting focused on the project specifications and culminated with Walker and myself planning a trip to the center in order to document the situation so that we can set up a campaign to raise funds for the community. We will release more information as the project develops.

Ideas, Tech and Current Events

This is where I would like all of us to contribute but that might be a ways off for the others. The idea is that we’re publishing material, perhaps project based or technical posts (e.g. setting up shots, photo tips, coding tips, etc) weekly in some capacity so that we give people interest in coming back to our web site. I envision this as being a part of our teaching as well and to give us more of a human aspect to what we do.
