A community can be the religious society or a reading club. Community can be grabbing a cup of freshly brewed coffee, sitting down in that cafe, and or restaurant, and observing the many different individuals that make up a city. Community, as most commonly know it, is knowing exactly who your neighbors are and understanding how we coexist with modern and traditional values in celebration with many others that are near and dear. Community can be seen as a secluded village in the deep forest, the desert, and everywhere else in between. Nonetheless, community consist of individuals coming together and participating in something that ignites hearts and gives purpose to our sense of existence.
Nowadays, people lack a sense of community. They may seek workshops to fulfill there secluded and lost souls, they donate their DNA to be tested to gain more of an understanding of where they belong, or rather, what communities they may be able to reach out, to have a clearer vision of their soul purpose on this planet. There is nothing wrong with this, just the reality of the world we live in.
Today, we can experience a new sense of belonging and placement through online, virtual communities via social media. For example, Instagram captivates and inspires individuals who are hungry to see the world, Facebook connects us to long lost family members and keeps us up to date with our old high school buddies, Youtube and Vimeo allow us to dive into the depths of live human experiences. Social media is doing its job well, it is bringing individuals together and keeping them connected without having to take one step out the door. In theory, social media is a good thing, right? Because now more than ever we feel we can belong, but also now more than ever, we our discovering that the artificial communities are making us feel isolated and lonely.

What if I told you that could be the positivity we are lacking so much of in our society? Part of a community that brings only good and complete bliss to the most sacred and misunderstood communities in the world. For some it may be similar to your following your favorite social media network, but its not. The community of Indigimedia allows for all of us to stay connected through helping and uplifting one another through various online platforms, but also through allowing you and your friends to be actively present in witnessing firsthand what these communities need and how you can help.
I am honored to say that I have a community. I come from an indigenous tribe that continues to practice our reason to be on this planet. Through forms of movement and voice we mimic and call to the spirits and elements. We fast, we eat, and we share stories that bring us together, always. Just as those without a community, and particularly what we see on present online communities, there is negativity. Not everything is fine and dandy when you come from a community, there are heaps of jealousy, anger, sadness, oppression, manipulation, and lies.
This corruption seems to be everywhere in the world, the only difference is that tribal communities struggle to find the balance between traditional lifestyle and a lifestyle outside the tradition. This can be seen as normal, because in life there is positivity and negativity, but its difficult when we are continuously trying to be in a neutral state of being present and up to date “with the times.” More and more villages and communities around untouched parts of the world are being forced out of their lands due to corporations driven by greed and power. These people don’t respect community because they do not understand it.
When there is community, similar morals and knowledge are shared and respected throughout. Children are brought into a world of knowing that just because someone isn’t your blood relative, it does not mean you cannot acknowledge that individual otherwise; but rather, call to them as you would call to your father’s sister and to her kin. You, uncle or auntie, brother and sister, come join our amazing community to acknowledge and pay respects to our relatives in need.
